Some books/references as help please

Look, I'm a long time coming over to this end of the spectrum of thinking.
One of those guys who always thought 'something is not quite right', and this can;t continue.
My actions thus far have simply entailed PM purchase etc, but I am looking to move to the next level.
In other words , preperation, preservation etc for me and mine. Can I impose fon you all to offer me whatever book/website recommendations you have found helpful? I have scrolled through these pages , but want to narrow down my reading list to what matters most.I apprecaite any and all insights. Thank you.

With your tremendous size and laser vision it looks like all you might really need is a beer. :aetsch:

Seriously though, here's some good ones on a variety of subjects useful for the survivalist.

Defense
* Kill Or Get Killed by Col. Rex Applegate
This will teach you how to defend yourself and your immediate area, armed and unarmed. It isn't the end-all, be-all but it is a great place to start. I also highly reccomend his Scouting And Patrolling for other purposes.

Survival Skills

* Outdoor Survival Skills by Larry Dean Olson
This one will teach you how to live like a caveman basically. :wink: I consider it foundation building. This book isn't about how to live on the run out of a backpack or how to be a good camper or hiker.

* Everybody's Knife Bible by Don Paul
You need a knife and this is the best place to gain the basics of knife use I have ever found. Paul has a very raw writing style and a few crazy ideas but there's so much pure gold shining through that it doesn't matter. I bought this one for my wife to read before I ever tried to teach her anything myself. It contains very little B.S. which is exceptionally rare, especially on this subject.

General Utility

* Ashley Book Of Knots by Clifford Ashley
What can I say? A big book about tying knots. Sounds stupid but you'd be suprised how many problems would go away if you had this one memorized. An amazingly powerful skill once you have it.

* The Joy Of Cooking by Irma S. Rombauer
My wife can attest to the fact that I am no cook and my BIL(a former chef) will say it's a good "Suzy Homemaker" book, but what other cookbook has recipes for armadillo and cougar? After 75 years there's still nothing out there that can touch it.

Websites

* the one you're reading
* www.slinging.org and never be unarmed again, plus lots of other neat info. I bet you never knew braiding was a lethal martial skill, did you?
* www.backwoodshome.com
* www.backwoodsmanmag.com
* www.thehighroad.org

I could come up with a more exhaustive list of highly specialized sites and titles, but what would be the point? Those will get you started and you can quickly progress to more advanced material, learning from others, knowing what questions to ask, etc.

Rev already linked you there but I really like http://www.backwoodshome.com/ Lots of great articles.

And on plain old personal defense:
"Principles of Personal Defense" by the late, great Jeff Cooper.
It's all about mindset, and is short and to the point.
